It is a book for children who have an interest in all animals and their environment. The language is rich but it keeps the reader interested. This book may be more suitable for the visually impaired child.

Not a challenging book for a young reader, although there are some difficult words, eg. trudged, sincerely and blearily. It is a tale of a fox whose uncle is coming to stay so he has to tidy up his house. He puts all his rubbish in a hole. Unfortunately the hole belongs to a badger. The badger puts it down another hole and so the story goes on, until eventually the rubbish rolls down a hill right into the feet of Uncle Ferdinand who takes it back to fox's home. A mouse sees the rubbish and sees at useful. It is an interesting tale with recycling and environmental issues. A good discussion starter.

Ephra the baby elephant has the biggest ears but never listens. It is only when she learns a valuable lesson that she learns to listen to others. It is a truly wonderful book for youngsters and has a message for every child. The book also provides factual information about elephants that any curious child would like to know. The book is suitable for children learning English as an additional language and there is also a Braille version.

This is a book that would appeal to any child that enjoys "Old MacDonald had a farm." It is a story of a cockerel that didn't know how to crow. The other farm animals teased him with their own voices; e.g. cock-a quack-quack. However, as soon as a fox appears the cockerel becomes a hero. Not only does he scare off the fox he gets his own voice. A lovely book for young children. This book is suitable for children learning English as an additional language and is also available in Braille.

A wonderful story of a traditional dragon of mighty strength and power, but, with a weakness - he is afraid of mice. The illustrations are superb that are full of humour and ironic details. George the mouse is a hero and doesn't know it. This is a must for any adult reading to a child or a child reading it for themselves. There is no challenging language and the book is available in Braille and is suitable for children who are visually impaired.

A superb non-fiction book detailing the life of a dog. Wonderful photographs and images. A great book for teaching young children about the young life of pets. The book explains health, safety and nurturing of a young puppy into its adulthood. The language is challenging for Year 1, however, any child with a pet can realte to the content. Suitable for children learning English as a second language. The book is also available in Braille and large print.

This is a non-fiction book about the local environment using wonderful colour photographs and images to explain the world outside school and home. There is a good glossary to explain difficult words and a simple index to introduce reference skills. It is an unusual choice for a Sats book, but interesting. There is challenging written language, but not that any child would be unfamiliar with.

A great book for daughters who love their Dads. This book explains to children that there is nothing to be frightened of when there is a knock on the door. Each time there is a knock on the door it's always a different monster, but in fact, it's always Daddy. A great read, and very subtle illustrations- especially the tartan slippers.
The story can be easily be related to any young child. The language is sinple and easily recognised by an early reader.

A non-fiction book about the life cycle and habits of ladybirds. It is science based on the topic of life processes and the senses. There are good simple questions included, based on the information. The pictures are superb but the language is challenging for a Level 1 reader.

This is a wondeful story of a turtles journey from being hatched and getting to the sea. The author obviously knows her subject. The turtle has a perilous journey to get to its destination and is encouraged by the songs from the sea. Super poetry. A lovely book with dramatic illustrations that introduce children to a turtles lifecycle.

Jeremy has everything or so he thinks. Sam appears to have nothing. Jeremy is always bragging about what he has got but somthing always seems to go wrong. Jeremy is an ungrateful boy whereas Sam is very unassuming. Even when Sam resues Jeremy from water he never says thankyou. There are lessons to be learned from this book - how to make friends, how to treat people and how to be modest. Easy to read and good picture clues. The text is large and is therefore suitable for visually impaired children.

A very easy read about a selfish girl, Claudia. She cannot share and is always taking her best friends toys away from her. She is constantly saying that they are hers. A good ending to give her the commupance that she deserves. Claudias friend gets the last laugh! An amusing tale. The book has learning potential about how to play with others and to respect other peoples belongings. The book is suitable for children who are learning English as a second language, it is also available in braille and large print.

A truly wonderful book based on the old favourite of 'The Little Red Hen'. The wolf wants to make some pancakes and nobody wants to help so he does it all himself. The characters that he asks for help are all familiar to any child, e.g. The Gingerbread man, The three little pigs, Red riding hood. There is a twist at the end that makes the story a little different, but a very good read. Suitable for children learning English as a second language. The book is also available in braille and large print.

The book is in a series that is endorsed by the PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals) and they are designed to teach children about how to choose and look after a pet. There are difficult words for 7 year olds but there is a glossary of terms. It is a book that needs to be read with an adult. The illustrations are superb.

A delightful and humorous book which is a nice easy read that can be read time and time again. It highlights children's innocence and the learning of a valuable lesson - listen to those who know better. The language is simple and easy to read. Katie is a child who wants someone to come to her tea party but everyone is too busy, so she goes into the woods to play by herself despite the warnings of bears. She meets a baby bear who is friendly and cuddly and takes it home for tea not knowing that Mummy bear is following. The ending is funny and has food for thought. A must for any young child. It won the Smarties prize for children's books.

The text covers size, appearance, birth, reproduction, growth, feeding and the various types of snail in our environment. The text is simple, but would have to be read with a child with an enthusiasm for wildlife. It is not a text I would use in a Sats test. This book is also available in Braille.

A truly superb book. Rosa is given a hobby horse for her birthday. It turns out to be magical. They go on many adventures in the night discovering a wealth of experiences. Through an accident when Rosa is hoovering the hobby horse gets broken. Rosa is mortified by this but she has also broken a spell put upon the horse. Her love and gentleness has made the hobby horse into a beautiful white winged horse that visits her on her birthday every year. It is a lovely story with a moral ending. The language is not challenging for a year 2 reader. It is a story to be retold many times.

A fantastic book! This book is a truly must for showing how a princess should not be a stereotype. It teaches girls that they can be brave and resourceful without losing style an race. The ending is fabulous. The book has great humour and imagination. The language is challenging as a Level 2 book, but the interest in the story and the illustrations can involve a young reader to overcome any fear of reading. It's an absolute 'must' and a good choice as a Sats book.

A non-fiction book that is interesting and captivating. It has some challenging language but presents the information clearly. It presents a very good and simple explanation of the history and use of wheels and cranks. It shows how complicated mechanical devices are really very simple with excellent examples. Superb illustrations and photographs that show devices in everyday situations that children are familiar with. A brilliant book for any child with an investigative and scientific mind. This book is also available for children learning English as an additional language and for those who are visually impaired.

A Super story that illustrates what animals around the world are doing while we are asleep. The book shows animals in their natural habitat being awake, hiding, sleeping and hunting. The illustrations are beautiful and for a young reader there is great scope for counting from 1 to 10. It is an ideal book for childen who love animals.
